"Mass Media." Gale Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection, Gale, 2020. Gale In Context: Opposing Viewpoints, https://link.gale.com/apps/doc/PC3010999226/OVIC?u=ggcl&sid=OVIC&xid=168b7ef3. Accessed 2 Apr. 2020.
This article goes over how media is slowly taking over traditional media. For example, Television is being completely overthrown by streaming platforms. YouTube has already been doing this for a while but when you include Netflix, Hulu, Twitch, etc. It’s inarguable at that point that new Media is becoming better than old traditional media. It also explains the problem of Mass Media with articles and news. Fake news is a big problem with Mass media since its mainly activist that are publishing these making people change political views. Mass media just basically causes positive and negative influences on people.

Online gambling has been a problem but not a huge problem like gambling. Online gambling definitely seems like it breaks a law it doesn’t. This article is explaining what Online gambling is and if it should be checked for legality. The Internet has allowed new types of gambling to be available online. Improvements in technology have changed betting habits just as video lottery terminals and scratch cards changed the gambling industry in the 20th century. Gambling has become one of the most popular and lucrative businesses on the Internet. This is partly due to the wide range of gambling options available to many different types of people. For example, Fantasy Sports allows those who not only like sports but are able to basically be put in the hands of a GM of a team. This allows more satisfaction for people since they're in more control of what they’re betting on. While normal sports betting is the activity of predicting sports results and placing a wager on the outcome. There’s also online poker and casinos which have more risk of course. But most of these were legalized in the late 2000s by most states.

"Arms Trade." Gale Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection, Gale, 2015. Gale In Context: Opposing Viewpoints, https://link.gale.com/apps/doc/PC3010999257/OVIC?u=ggcl&sid=OVIC&xid=f1f48b61. Accessed 2 Apr. 2020.
This article is discussing Arms trade and how it’s hurting the US. The arms treaty was established common standards for the international trade of conventional weapons and seek to reduce the illicit arms trade. This article basically thinks that The Arms Trade Treaty is not in the interest of the United States. Over time, it will constrain the U.S. while having no effect on arms exporters such as China. It also thinks that it’s not serious about addressing the real challenges of maintaining peace and security. Since it’s growing more and more dangerous over time with it not being controlled as it used to be. It was more controlled during the cold war and arms race.

Introduction to the Claim

For the past 20 years, music has had a big inspiration on how people feel and how it affects their daily lives. Music makes has such a heavy effect on our lives that it sometimes changes our lifestyles completely. Depending on what music genre you listen to, a specific genre determines how you act. For example, different genres caused different actions, like rap music, causing gang violence in the US, metal music supposedly causing people to join evil cults, or maybe punk rock influencing rebels and protestors to make a statement. Certain music helps the body and soul progress through their daily lives and help them become a better person in todays society. The point is that music is exceptionally influential in our lives, but what specific genre has had the biggest impact across the world. To be able to tell which genre has outperformed the others during this last decade we will have to look at the popularity across the internet, album sales across the world, billboard status. These factors are essential since most music is noticed by the internet and gains popularity around the world that quickly. Deducting certain genres right away to determine the best genre is needed as well. Country and Metal shall automatically be taken out of the equation since their not popular around the world just the United States(specifically the south for Country). The internet has had a big influence on my decision since that's how most songs even get popular nowadays.

Music with some Multimodality

In the visual "Does the Human Body Replace itself Every 7 Years?" the video represents W.O.V.E.N. quite well. The speaker of the video has such a casual attitude that it keeps the watcher comfortable through the whole video. She does this by making jokes about the body while telling you what changes within the body and what doesn't. The visual of the video shows it's pointed towards a younger audience. For example, it has a green background which almost resembles a green chalkboard that schools used back in the day. The video even has drawings with white as color which resembles chalks written on a chalkboard. The creator of this video has a high proficiency with videos similar to "Does the Human Body replace itself Every 7 Years?", all of them deal with some type of science. The platform that's used also goes along with their expertise in teaching science to a high degree. Previously mentioned, The speaker of the visual is cheery and smiles from start to finish, and dressed as an educator. Its as if she's happy that she gets to do this type of video.

Image result for multimodalityThe written explanation "Do you know these fun facts about the body?" also represents an identical version of W.O.V.E.N. The explanation uses facts that come with a neutral attitude towards the reader since it's giving you a list of information. With it being written it uses the text to give off the personality of the writer. The writer is almost like the speaker from the visual previously mentioned. The author Susy states, "You’re going to be taller in the morning because of how the cartilage in your bones compresses during the day. Thanks a lot, gravity!". This implies that jokes will be said from time to time to give off her tone. The illustrations in the written explanation particularly show women. Which is presumably the target audience she's going for in this explanation. The explanation is written from a site that involves mattresses. That makes so much sense because it's giving non-stop facts that deal with the body.

However, both are missing some parts of W.O.V.E.N. completely different. For starters, the visual "Does the Human body replace itself Every 7 Years" uses one of the best streaming platforms, YouTube. Youtube has an array of audiences for its array of videos. More importantly, there is a search system that's implemented into Youtube. This conveys that any audience can find their type of video. So intellectuals that want science videos that explain the body transformation over 7 years can effortlessly find it. On contrast, the written explanation "Do you know these fun facts about the body?" just uses a mattress site that explains how the changes. Then simply ends it off with the price tag for the mattress.

Origin of Valetines

Growing up Valentine's Day was known as a special day for lovers to show how much they love each other. However, some don't know the dark origin of the festival with candy and why it's unknown. Valentine's Day is originated from the festival that celebrated the homicide of Christian martyrs. Which came along with other traditions that fit the description of being dark as well and evidence that shows what happened.

During the time of February 13-15, Romans were physically abusing women. This was one of the traditions that came with the Lupercalia festival. The author states, "The men sacrificed a goat and a dog then whipped women with the hides of the animals that were slain"(Seipel). Romans were known for being crazy while having even crazier traditions. This analyzes that the Lupercalia festival isn't as peaceful as one may have thought. Romans would drink during the festival which made it even worse. Also, women would "Line up for the men to hit them. They believed this would make them fertile"(Seipel). Not only does that sound idiotic, but it also verifies how dark the festival truly was. Buckle up because if you thought that was the only inhumane thing they did during the festival; then you're up for a ride.

Image result for lupercaliaDid you know that Valentine's Day was named after a Saint named Valentine? Well did you also know that he was a martyr? St. Valentine's decapitation and other martyrs was the original reason for the festival and why it was celebrated. Pamela Haag states, "There was no link between St. Valentine and love until the 14th century". It was a truly gory day that shouldn't have been celebrated. Thankfully, the holiday grew more towards love than the gore and brutality it initially was.

Thus, it makes you wonder what would've happened if Valentine's day wasn't lovey-dovey. It started as a crapfest but ended up a beautiful tradition that represents love.

Evidence on being old

There are many sports in the world that people have found entertaining throughout the world. For years, running has been proclaimed as the oldest sport. It's depicted as the oldest sport because the first Olympics ever, had running as a sport. In actuality, Wrestling is the oldest sport there is and there's evidence that can back that up.

Image result for wrestling cave drawingsWrestling was determined as the oldest sport with cave drawings showing people tussle with each other. The creator of the blog states, "The famous cave paintings in Lascaux, France, dating back to 15,300 years ago, depict wrestlers" (Simone). Cave drawings are dated back to almost 40,000 years ago. This shows that wrestling is the oldest sport there is just with cave drawings.
Also, evidence was found in japan; which makes sense because of sumo wrestling being a popular Japanese sport. The text stated, "A papyrus fragment was found with wrestling instructions on it, dating somewhere between 100 and 200 AD" (Simone). Japan is a contender for one of the oldest countries in the world. This explains how far wrestling dates back to and where it probably came from. No evidence has running showed running being a sport during ancient times.

If running was the oldest sport; there would be more evidence on it than just it simply being the first-ever Olympic sport. Wrestling has been shown in many ancient history drawings and even later depictions. "Works of art from 3000 BCE depict belt wrestling in Babylonia and Egypt, and the Sumerian Gilgamesh epic has a description of such wrestling" (Encyclopedia of Britannica). The Babylon Empire is one of the oldest empires ever the world. This Conveys that wrestling is indeed the oldest sport compared to running which only dates back to the Olympics.

In conclusion, there's not enough evidence that shows running being older than wrestling as a sport. However, if there was were portraits showing running, then it would've been a better debate between the two.

Light bulb Inventors

Hopefully, if you were a good student and did a project on who invented a certain thing; you would've read somewhere that Thomas Edison was the inventor of the lightbulb. That information you looked up is false. Edison was not the creator of the light bulb. In truth, others tried to develop the lightbulb. He's far from being the "Inventor" of it.

Before Edison, there were other inventors in the mix of the creation of the light bulb. First, there was Allesandro Volta, he contributed by giving the idea of creating light through electricity. However, the true inventor of the light bulb was Humphry Davy. He was the inventor of the first practical lamp which had the light bulb at the top of if it. He used voltaic piles(which was the first battery) to charcoal electrodes to give it charge. Sadly, it didn't sell well. Next, there was Joseph Swan & Warren De La Rue, instead, they both used a filament. Warren used a Platinum filament and Joseph used a carbonized filament both of those failed too. The credit of the invention of the light bulb had to be Humphry Davy.

One may argue that Edison did invent it because it was the only one that actually sold commercially and worked well enough. On the contrary, Humphry's version did work it just wasn't practical enough for homes and ran out of juice to quickly. Edison even slightly changed Swanson's creation by using a thinner filament. You could say that Warren, Swanson, and Edison innovated it though. They all innovated Davy's version of the Lightbulb by adding a figment to the lightbulb, but u could not say that Edison invented it.

To sum up, Edison was not the inventor of the lightbulb. Edison was the first to make the lightbulb a commercial success which is an achievement itself. To say he invented is stretching the truth which discredits all the other scientists that came before him with the invention of the lightbulb.

George Edwin Taylor

Image result for national negro party
Having a different skin color back in the day stopped colored people from doing anything political back in the day. Except this colored person didn't let anything stop him from achieving his goals. George Edwin Taylor was the first African American to run for president in 1904. The way he looked only stopped him from doing certain achievements. For example, His skin color stopped the Republican Party and Democratic Party from viewing him as a candidate for Presidency. Maybe it was not only because of his skin color but it was because he was the son of a slave. If he was born from a wealthy white man and a black woman would he be considered?

The answer to that question is insoluble. He would still technically be colored but he may get different privileges since he is born from a wealthy family. However, when it comes to him being born from a slave he for sure is denied by society from His courage allowed him to persevere when it came to everyone doubting him. Taylor's persistence in running a campaign while being black got him denied from both Political parties.

Despite the rejection, He started his own Political Party and began his campaign. His political party was called the National Negro Civil Party. Of course, was to get votes from the states that had sizeable black populations. Sadly, this plan didn't work but it was still a great accomplishment to make it that far as an African Americans. It showed how serious George was and how persistent he was even when he was seen as a joke.

Maybe if he was in today's age; fighting for equality and running for president with his own party. He would be taken seriously for him to get past 100,000 votes. He still attended Civil Rights acts after his election but now he was known for what he attempted during the 1904 election.

Almost like a Reincarnation

Unless you've weren't paying attention in your high school history class, you should know that Andrew Johnson was the 1st president to be impeached. If you've been on any social media site, you should also know that Donald Trump was Impeached on the 18th of December. These 2 historical events are both very different but similar for the same reason. Both presidents were nothing but emotionally volatile.

President Donald Trump has been a roller coaster. From almost starting World War 3 multiple times to declaring war on Black athletes, Trump has some similarities between Andrew Johnson when it comes to acting out pubicly. President Johnson tried to change the south back to what it was; which was bringing back slavery. He also tried to veto the 14th amendment. Similarly, they both are very dangerous when it comes to making important decisions for the Country. Andrew Johnson was racist but Trump is as well. You know the more I think about it these too didn't seem that different to me.

Of course, their main difference would be how they were both impeached. Trump was impeached for illegal dealings and Andrew Johnson was impeached for violation of the tenure act. Hopefully, Donald Trump isn't pro-slavery like Andrew Johnson. It may seem like their not indistinguishable, which their not. The only difference is the different races they were racist towards. Andrew Johnson may have been for the union but he wasn't too big on giving African Americans rights/voting rights. Just like Donald Trump, they both tried to maintain and change America by cleansing it of any other races as any white supremacist would.

Andrew Johnson and Donald Trump are almost driven by vision. They both wanted to change America just because they didn't like a certain race. History forever will compare these two together when it comes to foolery.

The 2/3 that was left behind

Did you know that less than 1/3 of students indeed graduate college who start college at a public college will graduate within the next 6 years? However, did you also know that sometimes never really the student's full fault? Some students may not have the intention of graduating from college, they're just there for the fun. While students don't have the work ethic like other students. Also, some students get hit with life events that college would be hard for them to focus on at the time. There's no singular reason that students don't graduate within 6 years.

When someone says "Less than 1/3 of students graduate within 6 years of college" they still come to the rationale that students fail and don't work to graduate towards their degree. Yes, that's a common factor but some students have important events in life that they cant attend college at the time. For example, my sister had a child while she was in college. She couldn't attend college and take care of the baby. At that time she was young so she couldn't handle the amount of weight on her plate. Therefore there are reasons why some students don't graduate within those 6 years of college.

Another example would be that students don't even have the intention of graduating from college in the first place. What I'm supposing is that students may just be at college because of expectations from their parents. My cousin had the same problem when she went to college because her parents wanted her to go, but after she bombed the first semester she decided to wait and get a full-time job instead. That shows that many students after the first semester usually come to the decision that college isn't really for them. The pressure could also get to them to join which just makes them drop out instantaneously.

Those are just a few examples of why only 1/3 graduate from college within 6 years. There are many more reasons that struck, that it couldn't be only the work ethic while attending college.
